India Signs MoU with WHO for Traditional Medicine Research

In a historic move, the Government of India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Health Organization (WHO) to promote traditional medicine on a global scale. As part of the agreement, WHO will support the establishment of a Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

This center will serve as a global hub for scientific research, evidence-based practice, and international policy development in AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy). It will focus on modernizing traditional medicine through clinical trials, pharmacological studies, and integration with modern healthcare systems.

The initiative is a recognition of India’s deep-rooted heritage in traditional healing and aims to bring herbal and natural treatments into mainstream global medicine. It also opens new doors for Indian pharma companies working with herbal, Ayurvedic, and plant-based drugs.

With global interest in alternative medicine growing, this partnership strengthens India’s leadership in holistic health and expands export opportunities for AYUSH products.
